Biography

Lori Arons was appointed to fill the vacancy in District #3 on January 29th, 2024, when Shannon Otto resigned.  Lori has been a resident of Jefferson County since 2001. She and her husband, Leonard Arons, both retired from teaching in the Fox C-6 school district. Lori retired from teaching in 2020 with over 30 years of teaching. She taught at Ridgewood middle school as the choir director and at Seckman elementary as the librarian. Since her retirement, she has been a substitute teacher in the Fox C-6, Northwest R-1, and the Windsor C-1 school districts.  Before teaching in the Fox District, Lori met her husband in the Venice public school district in Venice, Illinois where they taught for almost 10 years. They have been married for over 35 years and have two children.

For the last several years prior to being appointed to the council, Lori has been very involved with county government.  She believes her experience with the county council and the planning and zoning commission, as well as attending other various meetings throughout the county, she has learned valuable knowledge about the role of county government.  She believes that her experiences have given her a perspective of the responsibility to the citizens of her district, as well as to all citizens of Jefferson County.  Lori was the founder and then co-administrator of a non-partisan Facebook group called JeffCo Voters Voices for Responsible Development in Jefferson County.  Their mission was to provide information to the citizens of the county about issues such as rezoning proposals, elections, annexations, taxes. Etc.  Since her appointment to the council, she has relinquished her role as an administrator with this group but will continue to follow any new development throughout the county.

Someone asked her why she wanted to be on the county council.  She responded that her answer was simple.  “Because I was asked.  My husband told me that sometimes the position calls the person and I believe I have been called to serve at this time.”
